We sat down with Mey to learn more about her fitness journey and discover the keys to her strength training success.
When did you begin your fitness journey?
I started going to the gym when I was 15 years old. At the time I was taking Zumba and Spinning, but when I saw the women whose physiques I admired and asked them what kind of training they were doing I got into weight lifting and never looked back.
Did you have any specific goals in mind when you started lifting weights?
My original intent was to get healthy and feel strong. I also had a goal to be able to do 25 strict pushups in a row! Haha, but when I got introduced to physique competitions I got bit by the competitive bug and it became so much more.
What does your current workout schedule look like?
I train six days a week with a three day leg split and a two day upper body split.
Is there any advice you’d give to others who are wanting to make 2021 the best year of their lives?
If you want something you need to go for it. I don’t believe in fad diets or workout routines because they are unrealistic. You need to focus, give it everything you’ve got and see your goals all the way through; most importantly though, don’t compare yourself to others.
